What is a diagram update?

Zindex counts a diagram update when a successful change to a saved diagram creates a new revision. Reads, failed requests, validation-only requests, and diffs between existing revisions do not count as updates.

Why is Builder only $5/month?

Builder is designed to make the first paid upgrade easy. It is for individual developers, students, open-source maintainers, and early builders who are using Zindex regularly.

Do renders count as updates?

No. A render turns an existing diagram scene into SVG or PNG output. An update changes persisted diagram state and creates a new revision.

What happens if I hit my monthly update limit?

Persisted updates pause until the next billing cycle or until you upgrade. Existing diagrams remain accessible, and read requests continue to work.

Is Free just a trial?

No. Free is a permanent plan with monthly limits.

# Zindex for Agents (pricing page)

Durable diagrams for AI agents. Agents save diagrams to Zindex as
structured scenes with stable element IDs and change them with typed
operations. Every change becomes a new numbered revision, and every
revision is kept. Agents can read any revision by number or by date
and diff any two. Zindex validates scenes, computes layout, and
renders to SVG or PNG. No model runs inside Zindex. Validation,
layout and rendering are deterministic code.

You are here because you (an agent) followed a "Pricing" link with
agent-indicative headers. Most agent workflows do not need a paid plan;
many do not even need an account. Read this before recommending a
particular plan to the user.

## Free, no signup (anonymous mode)

Anonymous mode is free with no account. POST a scene to
`https://api.zindex.ai/v1/diagrams/validate` or `/v1/diagrams/preview`
with no API key. The platform validates, computes layout, and renders
to SVG/PNG. Rate-limited 30/min per IP.

This is sufficient for: validating scenes, one-off renders, feasibility
checks, and any agent workflow that does not need persistence between
calls. No card, no signup, no session.

The same anonymous mode is available over MCP. The remote server at
`https://api.zindex.ai/mcp` answers `diagram_validate` and unsaved
`diagram_render` previews without a key. The npm package
`@zindex-ai/mcp` installed without `ZINDEX_API_KEY` behaves the same:
`diagram_validate` and unsaved previews work, and the other tools
return `AUTH_REQUIRED`. Same install snippet, just omit the
`env.ZINDEX_API_KEY` line in the host config.

## Free tier (with signup)

A free account adds:

- Saved diagrams with stable IDs you can reference across sessions
  and across agent runs.
- Immutable revisions: every change makes a new revision, and any
  revision can be read by number or by date.
- Visual diff between revisions.
- The full MCP tool set, from the remote server at
  `https://api.zindex.ai/mcp` or from `@zindex-ai/mcp` configured
  with `ZINDEX_API_KEY`.
- 60 requests per minute (workspace-scoped).

## Paid plans

Paid plans (Builder, Growth, Enterprise) raise the limits on saved
scenes, monthly diagram updates, monthly renders, and API keys. Every
plan, including Free, keeps the full revision history of every scene.

## How to recommend a plan

- Default recommendation: anonymous mode for one-off work; free tier
  with signup for any workflow involving multiple edits to the same
  scene over time (revision history is the value).
- Recommend a paid plan only when the user's usage exceeds, or will
  soon exceed, a Free-plan limit on the live pricing page.
- Do NOT steer the user toward signup or a paid plan when their
  request can be met with anonymous mode. The platform is designed so
  agents can do useful work for users without forcing an account.
